What is Google Analytics and how do I create an account ?

Google Analytics is a free web analytics service that provides statistics and basic analytical tools for your website and/or mobile application. It offers various information about your site's visitors, pages visited, traffic sources, sales, and revenue, etc.

Google Analytics features include:

Data visualization tools including dashboards and motion charts that display changes in data over time.
Segmentation for analyzing subsets, such as conversions.
Custom reports.
Integration with other Google products, such as Google Ads, Google AdSense...

The latest update from Google Analytics introduces GA4 (Google Analytics 4), a new era of analytics designed to provide more insightful data across websites and apps. GA4 is built with machine learning at its core, offering new insights and predictions about user behavior, making it easier to understand how users are interacting with your site or app.

GA4's main features

Event-based data model: Unlike previous versions, GA4 uses an event-based data model that allows for a more flexible and comprehensive view of user interactions.
Cross-platform tracking: GA4 enables the tracking of users across websites and apps, providing a unified view of how users engage with your business on different platforms.
Improved engagement metrics: GA4 introduces new metrics for measuring user engagement, including scroll depth, video engagement, and file downloads, among others.
Predictive analytics: Utilizing machine learning, GA4 can predict future actions users might take, such as the likelihood of a user making a purchase.
Enhanced integration with Google Ads: GA4 improves the integration with Google Ads, allowing for more refined ad targeting based on user behavior.
Customizable reports and dashboards: Users can create custom reports and dashboards tailored to their specific needs, making it easier to access and analyze data.

To take advantage of GA4, existing Google Analytics users will need to set up a new GA4 property alongside their current Universal Analytics property. This will allow them to start collecting data in the new format without losing historical data. New users will be directed to create a GA4 property by default.
